About Long Grove:This charming little village was settled in the 1800's by a group of German farmers. As the village grew and prospered, a tree-stored hotel (later destroyed by fire) loomed over the crossroad area. A sorghum grist blacksmith shop and farm and dry goods store kept the farmers and their wives well supplied with the simple necessities of life. In 1846 the little country church on the hill was dedicated and became the social as well as religious hub of the community. Services were conducted in German until 1935.
About Us:In 1849 a tavern was established in what was then John Zimmer's Wagon Shop and is now the Village Tavern. A tavern has been continuously operated here since 1849. With the development of larger cities closer to transportation, Long Grove went into a sleepy decline during the 1920's and 30's. The quaint old fashioned buildings remained untouched by progress. In the 40's several women opened an Antique/Resale shop, and other shops soon followed. Today this colorful village is considered one of the most unique areas in Northern Illinois. We are Open every day except Tuesday |
